Frequently Asked Questions

Do you take insurance?

I am an out of network provider with all insurance companies and require payment at the time of your session.  In order to provide high level, one on one care, that will optimize your treatment and reduce the number of sessions you will need, I am unable to be in-network with insurance companies. Throughout your treatment, you will be able to email me, message me, and call me as much as you want. I will also be available to you after discharge as well for any issues that may arise.  I will always be here for you.

While many practices hand you a superbill and you have to submit the claims, for most insurances, I am able to submit your claims for you to your insurance company so there is no hassle on your part!  I do this electronically which helps to expedite payments to you from your insurance company. If you have out of network benefits, your insurance company will reimburse you, the amount depending on your plan.  If you have a deductible, the sessions will go towards the deductible.  Typically,  clients with PPO health insurance are reibursed between 60-100% by their insurance.  Payment to Women’s Health and Healing can by paid by credit/debit card, personal check, Venmo, and Zelle. I also accept HSA and FSA cards.

I worked as a Women’s Health Specialist for an in-network hospital outpatient clinic for 8 years before going out on my own.  What drove me to open my own practice was to be able to deliver the best care possible, to help patients find appointments in a timely manner, and to deliver personalized treatments that cater the treatment goals of my clients.  Clients at Women’s Health and Healing are nurtured and empowered to receive the care and treatment they deserve rather than what is pre-determined or dictated by their insurance carrier.

Do I need a referral to get started?

California is a ‘Direct Access’ state and I am happy to see and treat you without a referral. In general, I will request a referral from your physician to facilitate and coordinate ongoing care.

What are your qualifications?

Having practiced as a physical therapist for many years prior to specializing in Women’s Health, I have experience treating the whole body, not just the pelvic floor.  Our nervous system, musculoskeletal system, myofascial system, daily habits, biomechanics, and diet all have contributing influences that need to be examined and addressed.  In 2009, on my path to specializing in pelvic and Women’s health, I underwent the extensive and rigorous training and process culminating indual board certification.  I am one of 600 American Physical Therapy Academy Board Certified Specialists in the country.  I am also board certified through the Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute where I became a faculty member, teaching pelvic courses to healthcare professionals all over the country.  I love teaching to professionals and patients. Educating and empowering you, is an integral part of our sessions together.

How many sessions will I need?

In general, I see patients 4-6 treatment sessions.  I can give you a better answer after your evaluation and I know what it is that we are addressing.  At your evaluation, I will not only be assessing you, but I will also start treatment with you and you will have a home program to start working on from day one.  Every session, you should feel that you are making progress towards your goals, and you should feel you have more tools and feel more empowered with every session.   My goal is not for you to depend on me, but for me to help you so you have the tools to use at home, and together we will not only get you better but help you manage any symptoms that may arise in the future as well.

What are your safety Protocols?

Since this is a healthcare setting, California law requires that masks be worn at your appointment sessions.  All standard, universal healthcare precautions are observed.

Do you offer Telehealth?

Yes!  This is a wonderful option for those who live farther away or don’t have the time or ability to come for in-person treatment sessions.   I love seeing clients in person, but Telehealth works really well.  I have many clients that I have treated and continue to treat in this manner.  Sometimes, we will do a combination, so when you can come in, great, and when you can’t, we do a Telehealth session.

How do I set up an appointment?

Please call or text: 510-255-3865 and we will schedule an appointment for a day and time that works best for you.  You can be seen in the Oakland or Lafayette office and you can let us know your preference.
